Here’s why Harvard University just started a course on Non-profit Management in Delhi

Aug 2, 2017, 18:00 IST
India's booming nonprofit sector has the potential to make significant changes—from ensuring access to clean water, sanitation, and nutritious food to reducing infant mortality, improving health care, and expanding educational opportunities. This potential can only be realized if leaders of these nonprofit organizations can put in place the key drivers of success—a focused mission and strategy, a solid operational model, strong governance, and effective leadership.

Designed for senior decision makers in established or growing nonprofit (NGO) organizations in South and Southeast Asia, this new program is offered in association with Dasra, India's strategic philanthropy foundation, and with Ashoka University.

Exploring best practices in nonprofit strategy, governance, and leadership, the program will prepare the students to build a high-performance organization that can fulfill its mission, expand its scope, and achieve its potential for improving lives.

The course is currently underway from 31st July- 4th August 2017, is taking place in Ashoka University and Amit Chandra, Founder & Board Member of Ashoka University spoke to Business Insider about how this program can further lives of senior management.

“Built on the lines of successful ‘Strategic Perspectives in Non Profit Management’ at the Boston campus, this program is subsidized at one-fifth of the cost of the program and has secured full scholarship for almost 60% of the participants. With the help of Dasra, we have reached out to over a 1000 organisations which are a great balance of sector, size, and geography and gender diversity,” said Chandra who believes that the purpose of the program is two-fold.

Areas of focus include establishing a focused mission and a disciplined approach to strategy, performance measurement and improvement, responsible governance, and effective leadership. The curriculum highlights international best-practices, with an emphasis on South and Southeast Asia.
