Here's what it looks like inside Airbus' new futuristic sci-fi cabins for the A330neo

The Airbus A330 might have been flying since 1992, but A330neo's newly unveiled cabins would make you feel as if you've never stepped off the ground.

The sci-fi and futuristic design of the A330neo cabins is not a mere upgrade, but provides a glimpse of the future.

As you step onto the plane, an LED-lit entrance welcomes you. The patterns on the ceiling can be customised, allowing airlines to differentiate themselves for each other, the company wrote in a blog post.

It's adds a level of softness to what is, otherwise, largely a white plane.

Despite the fact that each passenger is allowed carry-on baggage, the overhead storage always seems to run out. Airbus has tried to solve that problem by increasing the capacity of overhead bins by 66% over the Airbus A250 XWB.

There are two benefits of that. One, is obviously increased safety. And two, having all the luggage fit in the overhead bins means there's more leg room and space for your actual seat.

Airplane cabins aren't just for the comfort of the passengers. The cabin crew and the airlines have a lot to gain from the interiors of a plane as well.

According to the company, the new design of the cabin allows for 10 more seats on the airplane. First, space was created in the center cabin by adding a double toilet. Then to increase capacity in the back, a 'Modular Space-Flex' solution was installed in the rear galley and the configuration of the people with reduced mobility (PRM) toilet was optimised.

A major secondary source of revenue for airlines currently is entertainment so Airbus has equipped A330neo cabins with the latest 4th generation in-flight experience.

For the crew, the A330neo moves the flight crew resting area to the lower deck to save on space. But, Airbus claims that its more comfortable and the redesign allows for two bunks for the pilot and six bunks for the cabin crew.

The crew will also be able to use the latest cabin management tools like 'Flight Attendant Panel' and galley GAINS to keep a track of the food and beverages on the plane.

The new design of A330neo is Airbus' bid to stay relevant in the airplane interiors industry. Airlines have begun to realise that it's easier to customise aircraft cabins according to their requirements before the actual plane is delivered, rather than trying to retrofit it later.

Airbus is also working on bringing proper beds into airlines in the cargo hold of its passenger jets. Airbus, in collaboration with Zodiac Aerospace, is looking to bring these sleeping arrangements to the A330 aircraft as well as the A350 XWB.
