Here's how much people in financial centres around the world get paid for doing the same jobs
However, depending on where in the world you work, there are big differences in how much people are paid.
New data from the salary benchmarking site Emolument sheds light on the discrepancies between the pay of business professionals in some of the world's most important cities.
Emolument took seven jobs, ranging from legal work, to old fashioned trading, all the way to software development.
It then compared the average pay of workers in these seven jobs in four global business centres: London, New York, Zurich, and Paris. Perhaps unsurprisingly, New York performed the best overall, but interestingly, Zurich topped the charts in three categories. Paris came dead last in each of the seven jobs.
Commenting on the company's findings, Emolument co-founder and chief operating officer Alice Leguay noted "Financial Services remains by far the best paying industry globally as bonuses boost the total pay package far beyond other jobs. The high concentration of financial professionals in some locations such as Zurich, London and New York is a contributing factor to the high costs of living with bankers pushing up property prices in the most desirable locations.'"
