The Sunday Times recently released its annual list of the Best Places to Live in London, revealing the capital's most coveted neighbourhoods.

Fitzrovia, in central London, was named the best area to call home in the city, thanks to its distinguished "style," elegant Georgian townhouses, and thriving social scene.

The Sunday Times credited "the area's renaissance" to the Fitzroy Place complex, which includes a cinema, shops, offices, and more.

Local bars and restaurants such as the Riding House Cafe, Berners Tavern (which "has the most talked-about interior in London"), and Percy & Founders were also mentioned for adding to the area's appeal.

Of course, the best neighbourhoods to live in London are far from affordable. The average property price in Fitzrovia is £1,773,692 ($2,508,852), according to the estate agent's Foxtons. The average home in Fitzrovia is 214.7% above the London average of £563,578, figures from Foxtons show.

Other areas include well-heeled neighbourhoods like Hampstead and Fulham, as well as more surprising choices like Vauxhall and Kentish Town.

The Sunday Times defined "best" subjectively, by looking at local news stories that relate to the appeal of the city's neighbourhoods, the popularity of the suburbs, and property prices.

Here are the 10 best neighbourhoods to live in, as well as the average property price of each from Foxton's, from least to most expensive. (Note: neighbourhoods do not appear in any ranking order.)

  • 10. Crystal Palace - £409,526 ($579,266)
  • 9. Greenwich - £552,934 ($782,114)
  • 8. Bermondsey - £608,859 ($861,219)
  • 7. Vauxhall - £745,868 ($1,055,015)
