  • Attorney General William Barr delivered his summary of the special counsel Robert Mueller's main findings in the Russia investigation on Sunday afternoon.
  • According to Barr's summary, Mueller found that neither President Donald Trump nor his presidential campaign conspired or colluded with Russia to influence the 2016 election. But Mueller did not reach a conclusion as to whether Trump illegally obstructed justice.
  • Mueller also said that 'while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him,' according to Barr's letter.

Attorney General William Barr delivered his summary of the special counsel Robert Mueller's main findings in the Russia investigation to Congress on Sunday afternoon.

In his four-page letter, Barr wrote that Mueller found that neither President Donald Trump nor his presidential campaign conspired or colluded with Russia to influence the 2016 election, but Mueller did not reach a conclusion as to whether Trump illegally obstructed justice.

Mueller turned in his report to the Justice Department on Friday after 22 months of investigating Russian interference in the election, whether Trump or his aides colluded with Russia to influence the election, and whether the president obstructed justice.

While Mueller did not exonerate Trump from accusations of obstruction, Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein found that Mueller's team did not find enough evidence to conclude that Trump committed that crime.

Barr's conclusions were as follows:

  • The Department of Justice "determined not to make a traditional prosecutorial judgement" on whether Trump obstructed justice in the Russia probe.
  • "The Special Counsel states that 'while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.'"
  • "The Special Counsel's investigation did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia" during the election.
  • Russia's interference operation consisted of two main elements: a social-media influence campaign aimed at swaying American voter opinion, and a hacking operation aimed at stealing and disseminating information to tilt the 2016 election.
  • Mueller has not obtained any sealed indictments that have yet to be made public.
