Dave Lutz, head of ETFs at JonesTrading, has an overview of today's markets.
- Markets are green around the world.
- Oil and natural gas are rising.
Here's Lutz:
Morning! US Futures are starting higher, with Nasdaq up 30bp and Russell just behind. Pretty much a sea of green overseas, with Stoxx600 back upside 200d and the DAX climbing 70bp as Euro retreats. Every sector in Frankfurt is rallying, but Volumes remain awful - most exchanges trading 30% light. In London, Miners acting well behind Antofagasta and BHP and Persimmon popping the Homebuilders, helping FTSE shrug off UK subprime lender Provident Financial getting smoked. Italy is standout in the red, as chatter intensifies about a parallel currency into elections next year. In Asia, Nikkei lost small as the Yen gathered some upward mojo - Shanghai up 10bp - Hang Seng up 90bp as real estate and financials jumped - KOSPI climbed 50bp - Nifty up small - Aussie climbed 40bp, while Pakistan's market got hit for 2% on Trump's speech
US and German Yields are slightly higher, but 10Y Treasuries are struggling to get upside of 2.2%, while Bunds barely stay above 40bp as Italian yields widen out. The DXY is enjoying a broad-based rally into Jackson Hole, with Euro lower as Germany's ZEW comes in light and Sterling back below $1.29. $/Y has clawed upside $1.09 again, while A$ is getting hit despite the rally in metals. In China, Ore climbs another ~2% - while Shanghai Trading Curbs on Zinc have proved futile so far, with the metal continuing to climb early. Gold is seeing a further reject from $1300. WTI up small into expiry later today, as another expected draw in Inventories is expected in US Data, while Natty gas continues yesterday's pop, nearing $3 in the overnight.
