Here comes UMich consumer confidence ...

The University of Michigan will publish results of its preliminary survey of consumers for January at 10 a.m. ET.

The consumer sentiment index is expected to rise to 98.5 from 98.2, according to Bloomberg. That would be the highest level since 2000.

Various surveys of consumer and business confidence have shown decisive improvement since the election of Donald Trump.

Both groups are looking forward to tax cuts, and businesses anticipate a lighter regulatory burden. For consumers, Gallup found that the jump in confidence was largely among Republicans, even as Democrats felt less optimistic.
