According to Bloomberg, economists estimate that the purchasing manager's index rose to 51.8 from 51.4 in July. A reading above 50 indicates that the sector is still expanding.
Markit's prior report showed that although the sector is still in expansion, it is not sending stronger signals for economic growth in the third quarter compared to Q1 and Q2. The July survey showed that employment remained strong.
Services contribute to most of the US economy's growth and job creation.
