At 9:45 a.m. ET, Markit Economics will release its purchasing manager's index for October. Economists forecast a reading of 54, unchanged from the previous reading according to Bloomberg.

And then at 10:00, the Institute of Supply Management will publish its own PMI. It's forecast to come in at 50, right on the border between expansion and contraction.

The manufacturing sector has taking quite a beating this year, following a stronger dollar that slowed exports and other headwinds.

There are fears that the shrinkage in manufacturing may spread to the economy and cause a full-blown recession, but several economists have come out against those arguments.

Both Wells Fargo and Deutsche Bank economists expect an ISM print below 50, which would indicate a contraction.
