Economists estimate ISM's index climbed to 54.3 in April from 53.7 in March.
"The regional PMIs have been somewhat mixed," noted Wells Fargo's John Silvia. "Strong gains in the factory sector were reported by the Richmond and Philadelphia Federal Reserve Banks. On the down side, the Kansas City Fed and Empire survey fell back some, though both remained in expansion territory."
