The preliminary reading of consumer sentiment from the University of Michigan is due at 10:00 a.m. ET.

Economists expect that the index rose to 91.2 in June from 90.7 last month.

With gas prices picking up and employment levels steady, Bank of America Merrill Lynch wrote in a preview: "Although gas prices have risen through May and into the early part of June, improving employment conditions and a strong stock market are likely to offset the financial burden to consumers of increased spending at the gas station."
