The affordable smartphone segment in India is heating up further with the foray of a brand like Lenovo in this space. In fact, a whole range of premium smartphones were launched by Lenovo a couple of months ago. At that time, it seemed that the company would stay in the high-end segment of smart devices and would not come up with the reasonably priced ones. But only today, we have seen Lenovo launching 4 new and affordable smartphones – all priced between Rs 5,499 and Rs 15,999.

Among the smartphones launched today, there is A850, which has a 1.3 GHz quad-core CPU, 5.5 inch display and 4 GB internal storage. The next one is A516 with a 1.3 GHZ dual-core CPU under the hood. It has a 4.5 inch display and just like A850, features 4 GB internal storage. The next two are A369i (with 4 inch display) and A269i (with 3.5 inch display) for people who want super affordable smartphones. Both have dual-core processors and all the 4 smartphones run on the Android Jelly Bean operating system.

The new phones launched by the $34 billion personal technology company, are a bit ambitious and many Indian manufactures have a strong foothold here. However, the affordable smartphone pie in the country is getting bigger and more people from rural India and smaller towns are adapting to the better technology. There just might be space here for Lenovo to fit in and start expanding.
