HCL Technologies is planning to strengthen its entry-level talent pool by hiring nearly 10,000 freshers in 2019-20, according to an ET report. Of this, 3,000 candidates will be hired in Noida — including nearly 1,000 highschool passouts.

The IT major is looking to deploy highschool passouts, fresh graduates and postgraduates — including freshers without an engineering background. The company had recently launched a year long work-integrated program to train entry-level hires called — Tech Bee — along with a stipend amount.

Highschool passouts will have to clear an entrance test and undergo a paid training program for entry-level roles. “We are charging a nominal fee for the training to ensure that there is 100% commitment and accountability on the part of candidates,” Sanjay Gupta, Executive Vice-President, HCL Technologies told ET.

The company has hired nearly 500 freshers on an early stipend of ₹10,000 per month after it launched its training programme.

Work-integrated programmes train freshers in technical skills including coding, software skills, and R&D.

IBM also launched its ‘New Collar’ career initiative on similar lines, which does not require college certification, TOI reported. The programme trains applicants in digital technologies like artificial intelligence , machine learning and big data tools.

The IT industry laid-off nearly 56,000 in 2017, as automation took over India’s job market. Digitisation is expected to replace nearly 75 million jobs by 2022, according to the data by World Economic Forum.
