The issue was recently brought into light when countries including China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and Asean nations were negotiating the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement.
Negotiators from these countries are presently seeking sharp reduction in import duties in India, they are not willing to allow work visas to Indian professionals, including software engineers and architects. They are not even ready to commit to easier investment rules for Indian companies in their respective countries.
The Indian government is making a stand in front of these countries that Indian professionals not only contribute to their economies but Indian companies also create thousands of jobs in their economies.
Due to its recent ban on visas for Indian professionals, the government is accusing the Singapore government of going back on its commitment despite having committed for doing so in the bilateral trade and investment treaty.
