Amazon India, after introducing the sale of used books on its platform in August 2016, has opened up the platform to individual sellers to encourage peer-to-peer sales.

The e-commerce giant is calling it 'pick-pack-andpay' programme, directly taking on classifieds sites including Naspers-backed OLX and a similar service from Indian unicorn Quikr, which introduced a similar service 'Quikr Doorstep' for facilitating payment, packing and delivery in March 2016.

The current model for individual sellers to retail their goods on Amazon India marketplace includes product categories like refurbished mobile phones, tablets and laptops as well as unboxed and used gadgets, books, watches, movies, video games and music CDs. The portal will also showcase products made by home-preneurs such as fashion jewellery makers.

"This is the launch of Amazon India's pilot with Junglee, which was initiated in late 2014 following which Junglee was diluted as a brand," a source familiar with the discussion, told ET.

The landing page for registration as an individual seller continues to be on Junglee, the price comparison and barter site which was bought by Amazon in 1998 in the US.
