Google wants its enterprise products to take over Microsoft Outlook and IBM Notes in India

Google sees India as one of its fastest growing markets, which is why it wants major Indian companies, who generally use products from its competitors, to switch to its products and apps.

The enterprise products from Google are called Google-Apps-For-Work, and companies like Hero Motors, Welspun and JSW Steel are already using them.

"India is our fastest growing large market. We are seeing our strongest demand here. There has been an acceleration in the large 18 months, especially as large enterprises want to be more collaborative and innovative," Sebastien Marotte, VP, Google Apps for Work at Google, told ET.

Without divulging the exact details of the usage in India, Marotte said that 2 million businesses worldwide were using Google's enterprise products, with about 4,500 new companies signing up every day. Moreover, about 1,000 companies, employing over 10,000 people, were using the software suite.

In India, it is now focusing on getting large clients, to take over competitor products like Microsoft's Office 365 and IBM's Lotus Notes. To attract more clients, it’s even started to offer its products free of cost to enterprises that are locked into contracts with its competitors but want to give it a try.

"Sometimes companies are locked into enterprise agreements. So we offer it to them free for the remainder of their contract, so they don't have to pay twice. We have about 2,00,000 companies evaluating Apps-for-Work while tied to another contract," Marotte added.

To attract new companies, it has entered into a tie-up with domain-name providers like Big Rock, so that small-and-medium businesses start using its products right from the time when they go online.
