- The Golden State Warriors announced Wednesday that they have picked Google Cloud as their official cloud provider.
- The Warriors will use Google's analytics technology to track data that can help the team play basketball better.
- The Warriors - and the Chase Center, the under-construction stadium where they'll play - also plan to use Google Cloud for hosting mobile apps.
The Golden State Warriors just picked Google Cloud as their official cloud provider, and will use its data-crunching technology to help the team improve how it plays.
The franchise announced its multi-year partnership on Wednesday. It will use Google Cloud to track analytics to help the team perform better on the court, and to crunch scouting reports and better recruit athletes. This data can easily be shared with coaches, staff and players, Google Cloud claims.
The Warriors also plan to host a mobile app on the Google Cloud platform. That app allows fans to find information on the team and use Google Maps for navigation.
Google Cloud will also be a founding partner of the Chase Center in San Francisco, which will become the new home venue for the Warriors when it opens in September. Google Cloud says that the Chase Center will use similar kinds of analytics to promote sporting and entertainment events at the venue.
"Today, 70% of the Golden State Warriors analytics team's time is spent collecting and shaping data and only 30% of time is spent analyzing it," Kirk Lacob, assistant general manager and vice president of GSW Sports Ventures at the Warriors, said in a statement. "Partnering with Google Cloud to automate the collection of valuable data will allow us to free up resources and spend more time turning these insights into action."
The Warriors' record this season is 37-15.
