Goodyear created a crazy concept for the tire of the future

To start dipping their toes into the autonomous car race, Goodyear has done what they do best. Make tires.  Goodyear has a new tire concept which showcases a ton of new car safety tech.

This new concept, the Goodyear Eagle-360, is no ordinary tire. It's even more round than your normal circular tire!

The concept uses a spherical design shape instead of the standard circular design that cars have been using for decades. Basically, now it looks more like a middle school dodgeball than a donut. Thankfully, it's not just the shape that makes this new tire so crazy.

Goodyear has gone with a spherical design to allow cars to turn in any direction necessary, at any time necessary. Goodyear also plans on having these tires be propelled and connected to the car solely by using magnetic forces projected from the vehicle that they are mounted on.

The tires will also use built-in sensors to tell relay traction and road conditions back to the car, as well as keeping track of the tire tread life and pressure. These technologies could be very key in helping autonomous cars stay in control with varying road conditions.

It might be unlikely that some of these technologies will be used in autonomous cars any time soon, but it's great to know that companies like Goodyear are looking forward and thinking of how they can do their part in advancing the future of autonomous cars.
