With this aim again, the space agency is all set to gift India its first desi location navigation system next year. Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System or IRNSS, as it will be called, will serve as "replacement to American Global Positioning System (GPS)" for the common public.

Some of the remarkable benchmarks that this desi navigation system (to be launched by July next year) will set are simply amazing. Check it out!

-Real time, accurate data (better than the US Global Positioning System) will be available for anything in India and upto 1500 km from its borders

-It will aid in navigation and monitoring of fleet (trucks and ships) movement. For example, for ships the system can inform which route will be more effective. That will save time and fuel!

-Transport can be planned more efficiently since as data from the IRNSS can be used in services like car navigation, aircraft routes, smartphones and other devices.

-GPS is not available at all places in India since the signal is weak in remote areas but our own signal will be available even in remote areas with far better accuracy.

-So far the data received from the satellites had been very useful for defence purposes, agreed. But, Indian defence forces will benefit the most from this desi innovation since they would finally have their own satellite data with which they can carry out operations.
