- Goldman Sachs' global co-head of securities Marty Chavez is retiring from the bank after 19 years, according to a firm memo.
- Chavez, who also served as CFO of the bank and was formerly the highest ranking tech executive at Goldman, is being succeeded by Marc Nachmann.
Goldman Sachs's Marty Chavez, the bank's technology evangelist and co-head of the securities division, will retire at the end of the year, according to a firm memo.
Chavez, who is best known for his work developing a project to automate trading workflow known as Marquee, will be succeeded by investment banking co-head Marc Nachmann.
Chavez spent nearly 19 years at Goldman, which included a role as the bank's chief information officer where he was in charge of the engineers who make up a quarter of the bank's workforce.
In 2017,he became chief financial officer for a rocky 18-month tenure, before moving into his most recent role in the securities division alongside Ashok Varadhan and Jim Esposito.
Chavez, a technologist at heart, got his start in Goldman's commodities unit, J. Aron, and worked his way up through the securities division. In 2013, he took over the firm's equities division just as it required a needed influx of engineering know-how.
Chavez is also known as a champion on Wall Street for LGBTQ rights, and inclusion in the workplace.
