George Zimmerman's Attorney Took A Photo Eating 'Celebration Cones' During Court Recess

A controversial Instagram photo of George Zimmerman's defense attorney Don West and his two daughters eating ice cream cones was taken by West with his phone, local ABC news station WPLG confirms.

The photo, posted by one of Zimmerman's daughter's, Molly West, went viral on social media on Friday.

The caption reads: "We beat stupidity celebration cones ... #zimmerman #defense #dadkilledit."

West is the attorney on Zimmerman's defense team who told a badly received knock-knock joke during opening statements. He later apologized.

The photo was snapped on the first day of trial after the infamous "knock-knock" joke, a spokesperson told WPLG, adding that the "family has a good sense of humor."

West was unaware that the picture had been posted to Instagram.

In a statement obtained by WPLG, West said: "As a parent, we're not always proud of things our children do, but we love them anyway, and then we move on."
