Gandhi’s kin booked for remarks against Bhagat Singh

A case has been registered against Mahatma Gandhi’s great grandson Tushar Gandhi after he reportedly delivered odious statement against India’s freedom fighter Bhagat Singh in Jaipur recently.
Jalandhar Police has filed the case under Section 295 (A) (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class) of the IPC.

The author of Let’s Kill Gandhi, Tushar Gandhi, apparently delivered a statement saying that Bhagat Singh was "guilty of British rule, due to which Mahatma Gandhi , had not asked for suspension of his sentence" and that Bapu did not approve of his violent acts.

On Sunday, state convener of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) cultural cell and also the chairman of an NGO,-Jan Jagriti ManchKishan Lal Sharma registered a first information report (FIR) against Tushar Gandhi.

Ironically, Sharma, in his complaint, said that the hate speech hurt his religious sentiments and of people in general.

As per the local media reports, Tushar Gandhi dubbed freedom fighter Bhagat Singh a ‘criminal’ after which Sharma met the Police Commissioner and demanded action against the former.

It is noteworthy that Bhagat Singh had declared he was an atheist through his famous article, “Why I am an atheist”, and the police are not investigating the religion angle to it.

ACP (North) Amneet Kaundal said that the complaint was filed. “We have not gone into the religion of Bhagat Singh,” he said.
