Throne Fantasy, a Game of Thrones fantasy league, lets you form your own team of Game of Thrones characters.
Your team can then join your friends to form a league to see who will come out on top.
You can bet on serious aspects like how many people will die this season as well as speculate on the sillier things in like how many chickens will be consumed.
Just like there are fantasy leagues for the cricket and baseball fans, there’s now a fantasy league for followers of Game of Thrones called Throne Fantasy. It’s a mobile app that was launched during season 7 of Game of Thrones and now has 55,000 battling it out online.
Created by a former software engineer, Daniel Gorrie created Thrones Fantasy when an another Game of Thrones fantasy league didn’t quite cut it for him.
Gorrie told GeekWire, “The whole idea was to make this for ourselves and just put it out there and see if anyone else liked it. And it turns out other people did like it.”
Here’s how you can create your own team and play in the Game of Thrones fantasy league:
The app is available in the App Store and Google Play Store, so Android and iPhone users alike can download the app. Once installed, you have to login with your Facebook account — no, it’s not optional — and you can start setting up your Game of Thrones team.
Choose your favorite Game of Thrones characters
Each team has to have a total of 13 characters on board in order to begin Throne Fantasy. While you can choose upto three politicians to come abroad, there can only be one king or queen.
Making predictions
Users also have to make seven predictions about the season, like how many chickens will be eaten, how many glasses of wine will be consumed along with how many butts will appear on screen.
Not that there aren’t serious questions like how many characters will die over the course of the season, which character will do the most killing and who will finally sit on the coveted Iron Throne.
Moving up the leaderboard
Once you’re done setting up, your team will continue to accumulate points as the season rolls out week by week. There are eight distinct categories where a particular team can gain points.
To be or not to be
In the death category, for instance, you’ll gain points around how characters die, while in the dialogue category, you’ll gain points based on what characters say. Each action, in turn, has a different amount of points — negative in some cases.
Join along with friends
Once you have figured out the schematics, you can either create your own league or join one that your friends have already set up.
Be warned, if you plan on signing up for Throne Fantasy — there will be a penalty for joining late since three episodes of Game of Thrones Season 8 has aired.
