Future 'Daily Show' host Trevor Noah breaks down his insane daily schedule

Jul 8, 2015, 21:49 IST

When Comedy Central announced on March 30 that 31-year-old Trevor Noah would replace Jon Stewart as the host of "The Daily Show" in September, many Americans knew nothing about the South African comedian.

Though Noah had contributed only a few segments to "The Daily Show" before his big promotion, he hardly came out of nowhere.

He has been working tirelessly since he was 18 as a television and radio host and traveling stand-up comedian.

As he told Jerry Seinfeld in an episode of Seinfeld's Crackle web series "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee," Noah's daily routine when he's at home in New York City is exhausting.

Here's what a typical day looks like for the future "Daily Show" host:

  • Wake up at 6 p.m.
  • Read the news. Take a shower. Get dressed.
  • Walk to first comedy club and arrive about five minutes before stage time.
  • Perform stand-up from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Head to a restaurant to have breakfast.
  • Go to the Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village. Perform a few standup routines.
  • Go to some other comedy club. Perform a few standup routines.
  • Return to the Comedy Cellar. Have dinner.
  • Maybe perform another routine. Hang out with comedians until 3 a.m.
  • Go to the grocery store and do some shopping.
  • Head home.
  • Go to bed at 10 a.m. or 11 a.m.

Seinfeld complimented Noah on his relentless work ethic, which Noah had previously joked was developed from growing up poor.

"You know what?" Seinfeld said to him. "You're gonna do just fine."
