From campus to playground! HCL to hire kids straight out of high school

Country’s fourth-largest software services exporter HCL Technologies has gone one step ahead from its peers to hire young talent. While its rivals still depend on campus placements from colleges to get skilled youth on board, HCL has decided to hire students straight out of high school and provide them training to be IT professionals.

The starting salary offered to these Class XII science students is Rs 1.8 lakh per annum. Once hired, they will be trained to develop and test apps for the company.

The first of its kind placement drive happened in Madurai recently, where 100 students who passed Class XII were recruited to be directly absorbed in the firm after training for one year on its Coimbatore campus.

The eligibility criteria set by the company is a minimum of 85% in their board exams (80% for CBSE students).

Those students who want to have a conventional degree would be given an option of pursuing a BSc degree from SSN Engineering College through weekend classes.

While the first nine months would see these students getting classroom training for learning the basics, next three months would be to acquaint them with a working environment.

As per industry experts, this step could be useful for students who don't have many options in hand or belong to those families that can’t afford an engineering degree.
