Indian e-commerce giant Flipkart that has so far maintained its silence on the ongoing debate over India’s take on net neutrality. However, it has now openly come in support for the idea, saying that all content on the internet should be treated equally. It however has chosen to steer away from commenting about Free Basics, the Facebook programme that has garnered heavy criticism for being misleading.

"Absence of net neutrality will affect web innovations and create digital inequality in India," said a statement from Flipkart. "We believe that the spirit of net neutrality should apply equally to all companies in India."

In the recent past, Facebook’s similar initiative called Internet.org was stalled after it received negative reviews from the believers in digital equality.
