Being bike enthusiasts they set out to disrupt the two wheeler service industry. Founded in early 2013, Express Bike Works along with alumni of IIT and IIM, has designed and manufactured India’s first fully automated motorcycle wash machine that addresses multitude of problems faced by an individual owner as well as a service station. This is also completely manufactured in India.“We often go for long bike rides during the weekend. As much as we enjoyed the trips, it was a pain to get our bikes cleaned to make it ready to go to work on Monday. It took more than one hour to get our bikes cleaned at the roadside bike washers or service centres,” said Niraj Taksande, Co-Founder, Express Bike Works.
The machine is capable of washing even the dirtiest of motorcycle within 2-5 minutes, which is the fastest in the world, capable of washing over 230 bikes in under 10 hours. It is extremely efficient in conserving water and power and requires one fourth of the water a conventional wash care requires. Conventional wash takes 50-60 litres while EBW takes 10 litres only. Furthermore, the water is recycled for constant use until it is deemed unfit for wash care, which then can be used for gardening purpose. The technology is supported by a strong IT backend and can be virtually monitored from anywhere in the world.
The cost of making the first product was Rs. 10-12 lakhs, said Niraj.
Starting with a few retail touch points in Mumbai under the name – ‘The EBW Store’ the company has now forayed into international markets. The company has one manufacturing unit in Mumbai. EBW plans to expand in Pune with at least 25 outlets. In the next 5 years, they plan to have 1000 outlets nationwide. EBW has also tied-up with IOCL & HPCL to set up exclusive retail outlets at all their petrol pumps.
