These swanky extended-stay apartments near Wall Street are a new luxurious option for business travelers
AKA Wall Street, which is located on William Street and Maiden Lane in Manhattan's Financial District, features crisp and clean details. While none of the AKA properties are the same in their design, they each offer a contemporary ambience.
When guests arrive, they'll find a 24/7 front desk, where they can make restaurant reservations, book a car, request laundry or dry cleaning services, and ask for local recommendations. AKA also has its "Live It!" program, which offers everything from professional photography sessions to art classes.
Since AKA offers longer-stay options, most residents tend to be going through some sort of transition period, whether this means going on location for a job or moving to a new city. The brand has made it a goal to provide calmness through details like low lighting, soft music, a simple layout, and essential oils.
AKA Wall Street has a total of 132 spacious suites, where guests will find plenty of open space and natural light. Rooms include custom-made furniture from Italy and artwork by Colombian artist Nadir Figueroa. There are a total of 87 studios (like the one pictured here), which are roughly 362 to 473 square feet and include a custom-made divider for the workspace and bedroom.
Studios also include marble-clad bathrooms equipped with large walk-in showers and Bulgari-designed amenities.
According to Korman, AKA's residents often include media types and actors filming on location for multiple weeks, who enjoy the privacy of a condo setting. The company's long roster of celebrity clients includes Al Pacino and Richard Gere, who often come for months at a time. "We thought most of our business would come from Fortune 500 companies, but studios, directors, actors, and producers were the ones that saved us," Korman said.
"I have stayed at AKA while filming and working in many cities and truly appreciate the space ... the suites have a very open and inspiring atmosphere," Gere has said in promotional materials for the company. The one-bedroom suite also includes spacious living areas with white oak hardwood floors. In the one-bedroom premium suite, guests can use room-darkening window shades and floor-to-ceiling daylight curtains to make their stay even more relaxing.
AKA's business model rewards long-term residents with lower rates. After a stay of 180 nights, all taxes will be credited back to the resident. AKA also has an online manager who can make any reservations or arrangements before your arrival, so that you can relax once you get in.
Just like at a hotel, guests will find amenities like plush bathrobes, room service, and daily room cleanings, which are included in the room rate. AKA also works with local businesses to offer a discount of roughly 10% for services like laundry and dry cleaning.
Rooms also come equipped with full kitchens that include stainless-steel Celador countertops, custom-made Italian cabinetry, Fisher & Paykel cooktops, ovens, microwaves, and half-size refrigerators. Guests can also take advantage of AKA's partnership with FreshDirect, which allows them to request their favorite foods to be stocked in their refrigerator before they arrive.
Handy kitchen features include a toaster, tea kettle, and a microwave that also functions as a convection oven.
Additional room types include premium studios at 520 to 664 square feet, two-bedroom suites at roughly 1,037 square feet, and penthouses, some of which will feature wrap-around terraces once they're complete.
There will also be a conference room and a business center equipped with MacBooks. Residents have access to complimentary washers and dryers on the second floor, and since the building was built out of brick and mortar in 1907, it has extremely quiet hallways.
Besides its sleek rooms, AKA Wall Street will also have a rooftop cinema with outdoor and indoor TV screens. Through a screening partnership with the Tribeca Film Festival, the company will showcase programs and screenings throughout the year. Guests can also reserve the cinema for private viewings.
Outside, you'll be treated to magnificent views of the city from wrap-around terraces that extend throughout the property. This fall, AKA Wall Street will also be opening the Blue Ribbon Federal Grill, a restaurant from Bruce and Eric Bloomberg of Blue Ribbon Restaurants.
AKA's properties also features gyms with Technogym equipment and amenities like towels and water. “We want to provide privacy and serenity to people who find themselves in or dealing with chaos,” Korman said.
