Meet the fabulously rich moguls who live on Malibu's exclusive 'Billionaires' Beach'
The 21-mile tract of Pacific Coast shoreline that makes up Malibu is one of the most exclusive places in the world. But Carbon Beach, which extends for just over one mile along the coast, is even more elite, earning it the nickname "Billionaires' Beach."
Carbon Beach is comprised of around 70 private residences, which are owned by some of the biggest names in the entertainment business, along with tech titans, lawyers, and financiers. It's also home to the Malibu Beach Inn, a boutique hotel wih a popular oceanfront restaurant.
Music industry mogul David Geffen has been a longtime Carbon Beach resident, but he is reportedly trying to sell his compound for $100 million. Geffen was a leader in the fight against public beach access, but eventually opened a path near his home in exchange for a remodeling permit.
CBS President and CEO Les Moonves bought this contemporary home from Microsoft's Paul Allen in 2014 for $28 million in early 2014. The tech tycoon reportedly decided to unload the mansion because he "hated the sound of the ocean," the New York Post reported at the time.

Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison is perhaps the most prolific buyer of "Billionaire's Beach" property. He owns as many as two dozen properties in the city of Malibu, including 10 on Carbon Beach.

In 2012, Ellison bought the home belonging to former Yahoo CEO Terry Semel for $37 million. The three-quarter-acre lot has three structures: a home, lavish guest house, and barrel-ceiling screening room.
And a year later he paid $18 million for producer Jerry Bruckheimer's house.
One of his Malibu homes, a 2,800-square-foot oceanfront cottage, is available to rent for $65,000 a month this summer.
In 2004, he paid $17.6 million for the parcel that's now home to Nobu Malibu, an ultra-trendy Japanese restaurant popular among Hollywood A-listers. In 2013 he opened a Mediterranean restaurant called Nikita just next door.

Rumor has it that Ellison and Nobu Matsuhisa, the mastermind behind the Nobu sushi chain, have plans to convert the historic Casa Malibu Inn into a high-end Japanese concept hotel. Ellison purchased the property for $20 million in 2007.

Jamie McCourt, the ex-wife of former Dodgers owner Frank McCourt, reportedly owns a Carbon Beach home that the couple bought in 2007 from actress Courteney Cox for $27.2 million.

Joel Silver, the producer behind "Lethal Weapon," "Die Hard," and "The Matrix," paid $14.4 million for his mansion in 2003. He's known to throw a celebrity-packed Memorial Day party every year at the beachfront house.
