Lexus says it deliberately emphasized the wheel arches and roof bars to create the "bone structure" of the car, hence the gray matte trimming around the vehicle.
The car also has a massive grille that Lexus says is intended to create a "three-dimensional starting point" for the car. It also comes with a massive set of wheels providing a lot of lift above the road.
The design gives it a strong and sturdy SUV vibe, so if you're looking for a rugged kind of car that may be appealing to you.
But there are some other interesting features in Lexus' vision for the future of driving. The UX comes with a swanky set of rear-hinged doors.
The sideview mirrors have been replaced by cameras that feed video to a display next to the wheel. The driver's instrument has been replaced by a hologram globe, and there's also a hologram display of the infotainment system housed in its own case where the center console normally is. The soundbar is also removable.
Lexus also placed a great deal of attention on its Kinetic Seat Concept designed to stabilize head movement and hug the body to make prolonged sitting more comfortable.
In a nutshell, the Lexus UX has some design elements that do speak to an interesting vision for the future of driving. A soundbar that can be taken with you is certainly a cool and useful feature and the kinetic seats sound great in theory. But we'll have to wait and see what features actually make it into Lexus' future SUVs.
