Bank employees to go on a nationwide strike on November 26 in solidarity with farmers’ protests

- Bank employees are likely to go on a nationwide strike tomorrow in solidarity with the farmers’ protest.
- The All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC) announced that it would be backing the strike and offering its fraternal support.
- Farmers in Punjab are protesting against three recently enacted farm laws and will be reaching the national capital on November 26 and 27 as part of the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march.

The bank strike that seemed unlikely up until a few days ago is likely to take place tomorrow, according to insiders. At first, only the clerical bank staff was set to go on strike, but now the officer’s union has also issued a notice stating that it will be lending its fraternal support.Business Insider had earlier reported that public sector banks across the country were set to go on strike on November 26 as per notices issued by the Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) and the All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA).
Farmers in Punjab are protesting the three recently enacted farm laws passed during the Monsoon session of parliament. They will be marching towards the national capital, New Delhi, over the course of November 26 and 27 as a part of the ‘Delhi Chalo’ initiative.
“We consider that the issues of the All-India Strike are very close to us. Accordingly, we extend our fraternal support to the aforesaid strike and request our affiliates to act accordingly for the cause,” the All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC) said in its latest circular.
The main demands on the strike, in solidarity with the farmers’ protests, have been outlined as:

- Cash transfer of ₹ 7500 per month for all non-income tax-paying families
- 210 kilos of free ration per person per month to all needy
- Expansion of MGNREGA to provide 200 days’ work in a year in rural areas at enhanced wages and the extension of employment guarantee to urban areas
- Withdraw all anti-farmer laws and anti-worker labour codes
- Stop privatisation of the public sector including the financial sector and stop corporatisation of Govt run manufacturing and service entities like Railways, Ordnance Factories, Ports, etc
- Withdraw the draconian circular on forced premature retirement of Government and PSU Employees
- Provide Pension to all, scrap NPS and restore earlier Pension, improve EPS-95
