'Fawlty Towers' actor Andrew Sachs dies aged 86
Sachs' wife, Melody Sachs, told the newspaper that the actor had been diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2012. He died in a care home last week and was buried on Thursday, she added.
"My heart has been broken every day for a long time," Melody told The Daily Mail. "It wasn't all doom and gloom, he still worked for two years."
She added: "We were happy, we were always laughing, we never had a dull moment. He had dementia for four years and we didn't really notice it at first until the memory started going. It didn't get really bad until quite near the end. I nursed Andrew, I was there for every moment of it."
Sachs is best known for playing Spanish waiter Manuel in 1970s sitcom "Fawlty Towers." The BBC show was created and written by "Monty Python" star John Cleese and Connie Booth - both of whom also starred in the series. Sachs went on to play roles in British TV shows including "Doctor Who," "Coronation Street," and "Casualty."
