It's been one day since "Fallout 4" launched to the masses, and it's already made gaming history.

According to Steam's internal numbers and Steam Spy, a service that pulls information from Steam's web API, "Fallout 4" had 1.2 million PC owners on the platform in just one day of availability.

Furthermore, "Fallout 4" broke an even more important Steam record, according to GameSpot: the most number of concurrent players at one time (for a game that's not developed by Valve, the same company that manages the Steam store).

The previous record-holder for that category was "Grand Theft Auto V," which peaked at over 300,000 players. "Fallout 4," on the other hand, peaked at over 445,000 concurrent players in its first day.

"Fallout 4" is also the top game on all of Steam right now, in terms of current players, and it's the top-selling game on the platform, too.

These numbers only pertain to the Steam Store, which is the world's most popular distribution platform for video games. We still don't know how well "Fallout 4" sold on consoles, as the game launched simultaneously on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on Tuesday. Assuming these sales figures are good, we might expect Bethesda Game Studios, the developer of "Fallout 4," to announce some good news later this week or early next.

That said, plenty of game companies do not release official sales figures so as not to attract scrutiny from investors or company shareholders. Activision, for example, has released tons of statistics about "Destiny," one of its most popular franchises, but has still refused to offer hard sales numbers. Bethesda might go the same route for "Fallout 4."

Regardless, the company must be very happy for how well the game is performing in its early days.

"Fallout 4" is definitely one of the best games released this year. If you still haven't purchased the game, or are looking to buy the game sometime soon, here are seven things you should know before jumping into the game, and here's how "Fallout 4" looks on each platform.
