  • Facebook announced that’s going be partnering with music labels in over 40 countries on Thursday.
  • In India, the social networking company has partnered with some of the biggest music labels of the country like T-Series, Zee Music Company and Yash Raj Films.
  • Users will now be able to integrate music into their Facebook posts and stories — much like what TikTok already has to offer.
Facebook has announced its partnership with the big music labels in India — like T-Series, Zee Music Company and Yash Raj Film — to bring music to Facebook posts.

The social networking company seems to be borrowing a page TikTok’s handbook — an app that crossed 1 billion downloads just last month. It allows users to create 15-second dubbed video using the collection of audio clips available in its library.

The burst in video streaming isn’t limited to TikTok’s impressive growth either. Over past two years, the time that Indian users spent on video streaming apps has reportedly grown by 185% between 2016 and 2018.

And now, Facebook’s 300 million users will able to integrate music into all of their content on Facebook, as well as Instagram. According to Facebook’s statement this includes everything from videos and messages to story posts.

"Music has always been a powerful medium of expression. We are excited about partnering with the music industry in India and the idea that people here will now be able to include music in their videos on Facebook and Instagram, opening up more options for more ways to express and sharing memories with friends and family."

And, it’s not just Indian music labels that are going to be available on Facebook. The tech giant has partnered with music companies in over 40 countries around the world.

It should be noted that Facebook also has an app called Lasso — even though its currently limited to the US — where users can create quick and short videos to share with friends indicating that creating short videos to rival the likes of TikTok has been on Facebook’s playbook for a while.
