According to the airport's Twitter account, the incident began at 9:30 am. A TSA agent was reportedly shot.
LAX is the sixth busiest airport in the world, so the shutdown in operations could have widespread impact on airline operations.
A local traffic reporter says access to the airport has been shut down, and traffic in the area is backed up for about three miles, according to Fox 5 news.
