Exclusive: This food startup is giving competition to Subway with its changing organic menu

When we think of fast food, the first thing that comes to our mind is greasy food like Pizza and burgers that cater to our need for junk food. But companies like Subway changed that with healthy, well-rounded meals on-the-go. In India, food start-ups like Freshmenu, Yumist etc. are trying to change our diet with fresh food.

Twigly is an online food brand whose aim is to set up a modern fresh food supply chain and provide customers with meals made from high quality locally sourced produce. The menu is fresh, limited and changes on a weekly basis to introduce more and more cuisines to the customers. This is something that his unheard of.

Business Insider talked to Sonal Minhas, Co-founder Twigly who share insights on using new technologies, equipment and approaches to find the mix of success in the food industry.

‘’We have an internal technology platform that enforces processes to ensure fresh ingredients, and set up a delivery process that ensures the time from thinking of ordering to getting food in your hand is minimized’’ he says, when asked about what differentiates them from their competitors.

Twigly has also built in a recommender system into the app using machine learning, this suggests the items you are most likely to order, based on user ordering patterns. The algorithm currently has a 75% hit-rate and its accuracy is improving every day.

The company is also planning to deploy Artificial Intelligence to automate basic customer handling and order taking procedures.
In the long term, Twigly aims to predict when a user will be hungry and reach out to them with the perfect dish suggestion, machine learning plays a huge role in this. The company believes that the restaurant of the future is where the people want it to be, in their homes, offices or public places, and they get the food they want to be served to them.

The app which is seeing 350 orders per day and is just limited to Gurgaon and South Delhi, is planning to expand to Bengaluru by the end of this year.
