Tarla Makaeff, who attended Trump U 's three-day "Fast Track to Foreclosure Workshop" in 2008, "wants her life back without living in fear of being disparaged by Trump on national television," according to a court document cited by CNN.
Trump is enmeshed in two class action lawsuits filed by former students of Trump University, which accuse him of defrauding thousands of students with worthless classes on real estate and investing. He's also facing similar accusations from New York's attorney general.
Makaeff, whose Linkedin profile lists her as a yoga instructor, says she spent more than $60,000 on Trump U classes, according to her attorneys.
Makaeff, who's part of one of the class-action suits, has alleged in court documents that Trump University engaged in "brainwashing schemes, outright fraud, grand larceny, identity theft, unsolicited taking of personal credit and trickery into [sic] opening credit cards."
Makaeff's attorneys also cited "health problems" as a reason for her desire to withdraw from the case, according to the Associated Press.
A month ago at a campaign rally, Trump accused Makaeff of being a "horrible, horrible witness," CNN reported, citing court records.
Trump's attorneys oppose allowing Makaeff's withdrawal. They argue they have built their case around destroying Makaeff's credibility, and allowing her to pull out of the case would damage their defense.
A judge has said he will determine whether Makaeff can withdraw in a week's time.
This week, Trump released a video defending Trump University and pointing out that it had received an A rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB).
That prompted the BBB to release its own statement explaining the university had briefly had a high rating because students stopped filing complaints about it once it began winding down its operations.
