Ex-Trump campaign manager: I hope he sues The New York Times 'into oblivion' for publishing tax records

Former Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski said Monday on CNN that he hopes the Republican presidential nominee sues The New York Times "into oblivion" for publishing pages from his 1995 tax records.

Lewandowski said The Times "should be held accountable" for publishing Trump's taxes without permission, since there was "no national-security interest" in the documents.

"I hope he sues them into oblivion for doing this," Lewandowski said, "because if the fact remains - if it comes out that these aren't accurate, where's the recourse?"

A lawyer for Trump, Marc E. Kasowitz, had threatened The Times with "prompt initiation of appropriate legal action" if it published the documents.

Though Lewandowski insisted the accuracy of the tax records was still in question, the Trump campaign has not denied the veracity of the documents. The Trump campaign instead responded to the report by slamming The Times and trying to deflect to Hillary Clinton, Trump's Democratic opponent.

Lewandowski's role as a CNN political analyst - which he obtained after being fired from the Trump campaign - has unnerved many journalists for several reasons, including his infamous terse relationship with the media.
