Everybody in the golf world loves Jordan Spieth

Apr 14, 2015, 23:09 IST

Jordan Spieth is just 21 years old, but his golfing resume already includes two top-two finishes at the Masters, including a wire-to-wire win this past weekend for his first green jacket.

That type of success so early in a career often draws the disdain of older peers in a sport. But that is not the case for Spieth.

After his win at Augusta, fellow golfers showered Spieth with compliments, not only about his golf game, but the players seemed to go out of their way to compliment Spieth as a person.

Phil Mickelson noted that he just "enjoys being around" Spieth and that he is "just a quality individual."

Steve Stricker said he has gotten to know Spieth and called him "a great kid."

Rory McIlroy called Spieth "way more mature than I was at 21 and a hell of a golfer and a great person as well."

When simply asked to comment on Spieth, Darren Clarke went out of his way to first point out how great Spieth is as a person. "First and foremost, I played with him," Clarke told the media. "He's a wonderful young kid. He's a really, really good kid. He's a 'please' and 'thank you,' he's got it all."

Others went to Twitter to compliment Spieth including Bubba Watson, Sergio Garcia, and Graeme McDowell (via Golf Digest).

Golf Channel analyst Michael Breed was a guest with Mike Francesa on WFAN and explained why older players loves Spieth (emphasis his).

"They love this kid and they love this kid for a whole host of reasons. He is incredibly respectful to people who have come before him. He understands history. He knows what Tiger has done. He knows the storied backgrounds of all the players that are out there ... He's so calm in his demeanor. He's not the guy that is going to say something rash. He's also not the guy - and I like Patrick Reed. I think Patrick Reed is a wonderful player - but [Spieth] is not going to come off winning a World Golf Championship and tell everybody he thinks he is a top-3 player in the world. He's just not that guy. No matter who you are, everybody loves the humble man. Everybody loves the humble player and that's the way Jordan is and Jordan is sincere. We were out at the Presidents Cup. Jordan came walking up to us. We were shooting a 'Golf Fix' (segment) out at Muirfield and Jordan came up. I had never met him. He came up, introduced himself, we started joking, and I said 'you want to come on the show?' He said, 'I'd love to come on the show.' That's the way the guy is. It's genuine, and it's sincere, and everybody loves him."

That is some impressive praise for somebody who was still playing college golf less than three years ago.
