Products That Replaced Celebrities For Their Endorsements

Clear

The Barfi debutante Ileana D'cruz has recently replaced the Bollywood starlet Anushka Sharma as the brand ambassador of Clear shampoo. It needs to be told that this was the same commercial during the shooting of which the news of an alleged affair involving Anushka and cricketer Virat Kohli surfaced. Anushka has chosen shooting her film Dil Dhadakne Do over the brand commercial with Virat. This deal would also have meant a lesser deduction from the company’s accounts, as Ileana is yet to make a strong foothold in the industry and Anushka is an established star.

The bhaijaan of Bollywood Salman Khan got replaced by the Greek God Hrithik Roshan. The latter bagged the endorsement of the carbonated soft drink brand in 2013. "We are proud to associate with Hrithik Roshan, who truly reflects the daring, bold and fearless persona of the brand and its consumers," Ruchira Jaitly, PepsiCo India Category director-Flavours, was quoted as saying. Both Salman and Hrithik charge more than Rs 5 crore for their endorsements, and have a huge fan following.

Provogue

The energetic Ranveer Singh replaced the charming Hrithik Roshan as the brand ambassador of the clothing line. Earlier, the brand had Fardeen Khan and Saif Ali khan as its faces. Provogue made a smart deal in sensing the shift in the liking for Indian youth for younger stars, and it must have been profitable for them as well, given that Hrithik is one of the highly paid actors and Ranveer Singh is yet to reach that level.

Kurkure

Parineeti Chopra, the vivacious and bubbly actress of today’s Bollywood, has replaced Juhi Chawla, the vivacious and bubbly actress of her time. Juhi had been endorsing Kurkure for a long time when the Ishaqzaade fame actress bagged the deal, along with Kunal Kapoor, Farida Jalal, Ramya and Boman Irani, who now represent the Kurkure family. Although this deal would have cost much more to the company, given that they took 5 stars in place of one.

Thums Up

The carbonated soft drink from India has had the tough-looking actors for its promotions. Last we heard, Salman Khan had replaced the khiladi Akshay Kumar as the brand ambassador. Salman was a face of the brand for a long time before Akshay was roped in, and he was brought back in 2012, in a deal that cost the company Rs 18 crore for two years.

Spinz Deo

The deodorant brand from CavinKare made Parineeti Chopra its face after replacing Genelia Deshmukh. While both of them stand equal in terms of their cheerful persona, which is apt for the brand, Parineeti has been the more successful actress and hence, the choice. This success would also have meant a huge pay check for Parineeti as compared to Genelia, who has always maintained a low profile in Bollywood.
