Finally, you can watch the best version of "The Muppet Christmas Carol" — if you know where to look.

Previous versions of the hit holiday classic cut a pivotal scene, one the director wanted to keep in but was asked to remove by Disney.

But the missing moment is back on Disney Plus, tucked away in a menu. Here's why the missing scene matters, how it was restored, and how you can make sure you don't miss it:

The missing song in 'The Muppet Christmas Carol'

(Spoilers for this holiday classic if you haven't seen it)

The key scene happens when Scrooge (played to perfection by Michael Caine) travels to his younger days with the Ghost of Christmas Past.

Scrooge sees the moment his fiancée Belle (played by Meredith Braun) breaks off their relationship. But the scene ends abruptly when Past Scrooge tells her he still loves her, and she responds, "You did once."

Cut to sobbing Muppets and a crying Michael Caine as she quietly walks away. Wait, what?

Later in the movie's final scene, Scrooge sings a short song called "The Love We Found," a ditty that comes out of nowhere at the emotional climax of the movie.

So what gives?

Well, Director Brian Henson's original cut of the movie featured an extended scene where Braun sings "The Love is Gone," a tear-jerking ballad about how their relationship has crumbled and she's leaving him.

The song ends as a duet where Caine — tears in his eyes and his voice breaking — sings the final verse with her as she exits. It's a tragic moment that makes Scrooge's cruelty much more sympathetic.

And you probably guessed right: the final song of the movie is a version of the missing song with different lyrics.

That puts Scrooge's redemption in a more satisfying context.

In this full version of the movie, Scrooge — who had shunned kindness after his past heartbreak — now sings the same notes his fiancée once did, but this time embraces a new kind of love: caring for his fellow man.

It's great!

Why was 'The Love is Gone' cut?

Not everyone agreed the song was a good fit.

Henson told Entertainment Weekly that Disney studio boss Jeffrey Katzenberg suggested the song get cut because kids were getting "antsy" in their seats during test screenings.

Henson, reluctantly, took it out. But he and songwriter Paul Williams (who co-wrote the famed "Rainbow Connection") were proud of the song.

"It's one of my favorite things I've ever written in my life, that song," Williams told Entertainment Weekly.

Even Caine praised the "very beautiful song" in a behind-the-scenes clip.

A VHS release of "The Muppet Christmas Carol" put the song back in, but subsequent releases had to leave the song out since Disney lost the original film negative, and splicing in the VHS recording looked too obvious because of the sudden drop in film quality.

And so, the song was lost — until last year.

Ahead of the film's 30th anniversary, Disney announced that the song was back for "The Muppet Christmas Carol"'s latest release. Henson explained that the missing footage had been found years earlier and restored.

"I was like, 'No, you did not!' and they said, 'Yes we did! We found it!' I was so happy, I was so happy," Henson told the BBC.
