A third "Fantastic Beasts" movie is in the works with Eddie Redmayne reprising his role as magizoologist Newt Scamander.
In November 2020, Johnny Depp revealed that he was asked to resign from his role as villain Gellert Grindelwald.
The news came after the actor lost his libel suit against publishers of UK newspaper The Sun, which referred to him as a "wife-beater" in an article.
A spokesperson at Warner Bros., the studio behind the "Harry Potter" spin-off franchise, confirmed to Insider that Depp's role will be recast.

The third "Fantastic Beasts" film will be set in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Jessica Williams' character, charms professor Eulalie "Lally" Hicks, will play a more significant part in the upcoming movie.

The role of villain Grindelwald will be recast following Johnny Depp's departure from the franchise.
