- Travis Kelce apologized for his "unacceptable" outburst at his coach Andy Reid during Super Bowl LVIII.
- Kelce's confrontation with Reid followed a fumble by Chiefs' running back Isiah Pacheco.
Travis Kelce addressed screaming at his Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid during Super Bowl LVIII while chatting with his brother Jason for their "New Heights" podcast.
Kelce admitted that what he did was "unacceptable."
"I can't get that fired up to the point where I'm bumping coach and it's getting him off balance and stuff," Kelce told his brother at the 26:25 mark. "When he stumbled I was like, 'Oh shit,' in my head."
After the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers, Kelce was more tightlipped about the incident, which caught fire online and instantly became a meme.
"I was just telling him how much I loved him," was Kelce's joking response post-game.
But now, days after the big game and having had time to reflect, Kelce gave details on what transpired and his regret.
He told his brother on the podcast that the screaming "came at a moment where we weren't playing very well, I wasn't playing very well."
The outburst came just moments after Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco fumbled the ball in the second quarter, stalling the Chiefs' drive to score and giving the ball to the 49ers. During that play, Kelce was on the sideline.
"Those emotions get away from me," he said. "That has been the battle of my career."
"Coach Reid actually came right up to me after that and didn't even have harsh words for me," Kelce continued. "He just let me know, 'Hey man I love your passion, I got cameras on me all over the place, man. You don't want this to come off.' It just fired me up even more to get a victory for him as that's how much I love that dude, man."
Kelce said the two have chuckled about it since.
"So Big Red, sorry if I caught you with that cheap shot baby," Kelce said.
