Tom Cruise returned his three Golden Globe awards on Monday to protest the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), according to Deadline.

Cruise, who won two best actor awards for "Jerry Maguire" and "Born on the Fourth of July," and a best supporting actor award for "Magnolia," is among several actors who have called on the industry to protest the HFPA over the group's lack of diversity.

News of Cruise's trophies being sent to the HFPA headquarters follows NBC's Monday announcement that it would not air the Golden Globes in 2022.

Protests began earlier this year after the Los Angeles Times reported there were no Black members in the organization that hosts the awards.

Earlier this month, the HFPA announced it would focus on recruiting underrepresented groups for new membership over the next 18 months, Variety reported.

Recently, Netflix, Amazon, and WarnerMedia all announced it was boycotting the Globes and HFPA until further notice due to its lack of diversity in its membership.

Cruise is not the only star calling out the Globes and the HFPA, which is in charge of handing out the awards. Over the weekend, five-time Globes nominee Scarlett Johansson issued a statement urging the film industry to "step back" from the HFPA.

The actress claimed that due to "sexist questions" she's received from HFPA members in the past, she has refused to participate in the organization's conferences.

"Unless there is necessary fundamental reform within the organization, I believe it is time that we take a step back from the HFPA and focus on the importance and strength of unity within our unions and the industry as a whole," she wrote.
