TikTok star Dixie D'Amelio has faced criticism online after comments she made about wanting to "marry rich" went viral.

"My biggest goal professionally is probably to marry rich. Like, I really don't want to work anymore," D'Amelio said during the eighth episode of season three of "The D'Amelio Show," a Hulu reality show that follows the TikTok-famous family's lives. After the episode aired on October 11, her comments began to circulate on social media and became a topic of discussion.

The clip attracted a lot criticism from users who suggested D'Amelio lacked perspective or was insensitive towards those facing financial struggles.

"When dixie damelio wants to marry rich because she doesn't want to 'work' anymore but I'm waiting at the train station at 5am to go to uni cause I live far, study in a different country, work, pay my own tuition all by myself to make a living," one TikTok user, @sirinluvsmakeup, wrote in an on-screen caption to a video about the influencer's comment posted on October 23.

A number of users said they thought D'Amelio was already wealthy, with some speculating on her net worth. (D'Amelio had an estimated net worth of $2.9 million in 2021, Insider reported at the time.)

Some users also criticized the influencer for appearing to complain about having to work, based on their assumptions of what her job entails. One user, @judyhoppsl0vr69, said in a TikTok that he didn't think the work involved in being an influencer was difficult, calling D'Amelio "out of touch."

"Listen, she's entitled to her opinion, she's entitled to whatever she thinks and feels," said another TikTok user, @kaaayysss, in a video from October 20, adding, "But I hope that other influencers grasp how privileged they are, like I hope that they really understand the position that they're in,"

D'Amelio isn't the only internet personality to have faced backlash for making comments about their work life. Beauty creator Mikayla Nogueira also drew criticism for complaining that her job is difficult because she had to work until 5:19 p.m. in a video that went viral in September 2022, Insider previously reported.

Dixie D'Amelio is the older sister of TikTok sensation Charli, who has 151.5 million followers and is currently the second most-followed creator on the platform, according to Social Blade. D'Amelio has her own TikTok platform with 56.8 million followers and has also pursued music, releasing her debut album "a letter to me" in June 2022. Both sisters were original members of the online collective The Hype House, Insider previously reported. The D'Amelio family has now reached celebrity status and operates a multi-million dollar business enterprise, according to prior Insider reporting.

Representatives for Dixie D'Amelio did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
