  • Disney, Sony, Warner Bros., and Paramount will release new live-action superhero movies this year.
  • Marvel Studios has one major theatrical release in 2024 for the first time in years.

If you've been feeling superhero fatigue for the past few years, the tide is turning in 2024.

The list of live-action superhero movies is lean and mean this year.

After some underwhelming box-office performances and misfires, Marvel Studios scaled back to one theatrical release. Now, Disney's relying on its Fox purchase of the R-rated Deadpool to be its sole box-office champ for the year.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. is betting on Lady Gaga as a version of Harley Quinn in the sequel to its billion-dollar hit, "Joker."

Sony Pictures leads the pack with three superhero films, though none are a true Spider-Man outing.

Here is the full list of superhero flicks coming out in 2024.

"Madame Web" — February 14

Sony's first superhero release of the year focuses on the origin story of Cassandra Webb (Dakota Johnson), taking place in the studio's Spider-Man universe.

Johnson plays a paramedic who gains clairvoyant abilities and sets out to protect three women destined to become future versions of Spider-Women as they're hunted down.

Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O'Connor, Isabela Merced, and Emma Roberts also star.

"Deadpool 3" — July 26

Marvel Studios' singular 2024 release should be the superhero event of the year.

Ryan Reynolds is back as the sassy antihero, and this time he convinced his good pal Hugh Jackman to reprise his role as X-Men fan-favorite Wolverine for the ride.

Since Disney gained the film rights to the X-Men and Deadpool in the six years since the last movie, we expect the two to have some fun in this one.

Details of the plot have been kept under wraps, but a few cast members, including Jennifer Garner, have leaked. We're hoping to see an adaptation of the popular "Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe" saga, but with the fourth-wall-breaking character instead killing off Fox's many Marvel characters.

"Kraven the Hunter" — August 30

Aaron Taylor-Johnson in "Kraven the Hunter."      Sony Pictures

Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars in the origin story of this Spidey villain before the warrior and webslinger ever meet. Instead of facing off against Spider-Man, Kraven will go head-to-head with his dad, played by Russell Crowe.

The hunter with animalistic abilities was originally intended to appear in director Sam Raimi's canceled fourth Spider-Man movie with Tobey Maguire.

"Joker: Folie à Deux" — October 4

Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in the "Joker" sequel and Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck in 2019's "Joker."      Jose Perez / Bauer-Griffin / GC Images; Warner Bros.

Joaquin Phoenix returns as Arthur Fleck in the sequel to WB's 2019 hit that brought in over $1 billion at the box office.

While the plot hasn't been revealed, Lady Gaga joins the sequel as a version of DC fan-favorite Harley Quinn in what's expected to be a musical.

The title, which references a shared delusional disorder, hints at the often-toxic relationship between Harley and the Joker that exists in animation, comics, and films.

"Venom 3" — November 8

"Venom 3" — November 8
The "Venom" movies are notoriously bad, but there's something undeniably charming about the complicated relationship between Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and Venom.      Sony

Tom Hardy's back again as investigative reporter Eddie Brock who also plays host to Venom, a misunderstood alien symbiote who gives him super strength.

We don't know the premise of "Venom 3" yet, but if it's anything like the past two installments, we expect it to be a riot with over-the-top dialogue and plenty of laughs from its complex antihero.

Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor will also star.

"Sonic the Hedgehog 3" — December 20

The "Sonic the Hedgehog" movies have performed really well at theaters.      Paramount/Sega

Sonic the Hedgehog has saved the planet in two movies and possesses supersonic speed, so it only feels fair to include the video game character on a list of superhero movies.

Tails joins Sonic once again in his third outing, along with the return of Knuckles (voiced by Idris Elba) and James Marsden as his human bestie.

The team is expected to face off against Shadow the Hedgehog, who was teased at the end of the 2022 sequel.
