'The Haunting of Bly Manor' is coming to Netflix this fall. Here's what we know so far.
  • Season two of Netflix's "The Haunting of Hill House" is set to debut on October 9.
  • The new season is called "The Haunting of Bly Manor," and it features a fairly new cast of characters and some returning actors.
  • Actors Victoria Pedretti and Jackson Cohen, who played Crains on season one, will be returning to the show as new characters.
  • "The Haunting of Bly Manor" is based on the works of author Henry James, particularly the novella "The Turn of the Screw."

"The Haunting of Hill House" is the horror series that took Netflix by storm, enrapturing viewers with its shiver-inducing jump-scares, intricate storylines, and careful probing into the psyches and grief of the haunted Crain family.

With a 93% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it's no surprise that the 10-episode retelling of the classic horror novel from Shirley Jackson has been officially renewed for another season. But season two is going to tell an entirely new story.

Here's what we know about "The Haunting of Bly Manor," the second season of the "Haunting" anthology, so far.

Moving forward, the series will be an anthology

In a press release from Netflix, the beloved series was referred to as "The Haunting" anthology. The show's director, Mike Flanagan, previously alluded to this concept in 2018 when he told Entertainment Weekly that if there was a second season, he "loves the idea of an anthology."

That would mean that, like "American Horror Story," each season will tell a different story with an entirely new cast of characters.

And so, the second season won't feature the Crain family

The second season is a new installment in the anthology series and it will chronicle all-new characters. But this is no surprise to those who have been closely following the buzz around a second season for months.

"I felt like the Crains have been through enough," Flanagan told Entertainment Weekly in 2018. "We left them exactly as we all wanted to remember them, those of us who worked on it. We toyed with a cliffhanger ending and we toyed with other ideas, but ultimately, in the writers' room and with the cast and everything else, we really felt like the story demanded a certain kind of closure from us and we were happy to close the book on that family."

Season two will feature familiar faces from the Crain family, plus some new ones

Victoria Pedretti, who played Nell Crain, will be returning to the series but this time as Dani, an American nanny who takes care of the two unusual Wingrave orphans.

The Wingrave orphans, Miles and Flora, will be played by series newcomers Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Amelie Bea Smith, respectively.

Jackson Cohen, who played Luke Crain on season one, will return to the series to play Peter Quint, who's been described as charming.

Henry Thomas, who played a young Hugh Crain on season one, will be returning for season two as Henry Wingrave, the wealthy and distant uncle of the two Wingrave orphans.

Per Vanity Fair, the cast also includes newcomers T'Nia Miller, who will play Hannah Grose, the manager of Bly Manor, and Tahirah Sharif, who will appear as a former governess. The cast will also include Amelia Eve as a groundskeeper and Rahul Kohli as the estate's chef.

The second season will pull inspiration from the Henry James novella 'The Turn of the Screw'

Season two will be based on the works of author Henry James, particularly the novella "The Turn of the Screw," which is about a haunted estate and a governess's first job teaching two orphans.

"A new Haunting is coming. Can you guess where it takes place? Listen closely ... ," the official "Haunting" account tweeted, sharing a video.

In the early teaser, you can hear a voice whispering, "The terrace and the whole place, the lawn and the garden beyond it, all I could see of the park, were empty with a great emptiness." The quote is from "The Turn of the Screw."

The second season is set to be released this fall

"The Haunting of Bly Manor" is set to begin streaming on October 9.
