Taylor Swift announced Saturday afternoon she would postpone a long-awaited concert in Rio de Janeiro amid extreme temperatures, following the death of a fan the previous night.

"I'm writing this from my dressing room in the stadium. The decision has been made to postpone tonight's show due to the extreme temperatures in Rio," Swift said in an Instagram story. "The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers, and crew has to and always will come first."Earlier on Saturday, Swift had announced the death of a fan, whom Brazilian media reports identified as Ana Clara Benevides. The reports said Benevides died of cardiac arrest after fainting amid the crowds at Swift's Friday evening concert."I can't even tell you how devastated I am by this," Swift wrote on Instagram. "There's very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young."Brazil has been beset by a dangerous heatwave, with temperatures in Rio reportedly climbing to nearly 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Inside the stadium during Friday's concert, fans appeared to be sweltering and dehydrated. Videos circulated on Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok showing Swift halting her concert to help fans who needed water.Brazilian newspaper Folha de S.Paulo reported that 1,000 fans fainted during Friday's show, and others vomited and suffered "extreme dehydration."Swift had been scheduled to perform three back-to-back shows in Rio de Janeiro on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
