Ryan Gosling is pissed that Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie were snubbed by the Oscars
  • Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie didn't receive Oscar nominations this year for "Barbie."
  • Ryan Gosling, who received a best supporting actor nod for playing Ken in the movie, is pissed about it.

Ryan Gosling isn't happy that "Barbie" director Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie were snubbed at this year's Oscars.

Gosling, who plays Ken in "Barbie," released a statement on Tuesday expressing his disappointment at the news. Gosling received a best supporting actor nod when the Oscar nominations were announced on the same day.

"There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film," Gosling said in his statement.

"No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius," he continued. "To say that I'm disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement."

"Barbie" received eight nominations on Tuesday. Besides Gosling's best supporting actor nomination, the film received nods for best picture, costume design, and production design.

Gosling's criticisms were also echoed by costar American Ferrera, who received a best supporting actress nomination for her work on "Barbie."

"Greta has done just about everything that a director could do to deserve it," Ferrera told Variety.

"It feels disappointing to not see her on that list," Ferrera added.

"Barbie" was the highest-grossing movie of 2023. The movie scored nine nominations at this year's Golden Globe Awards, winning for cinematic and box office achievement as well as best original song.

Representatives for Gosling did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider sent outside regular business hours.
