  • Robert De Niro's grandson Leandro De Niro was found dead Sunday in New York City.
  • NYPD responded to 55 Wall Street just after 2:30 p.m. and found the teen unresponsive.

Robert De Niro's grandson Leandro De Niro was found dead at an iconic lower Manhattan building on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

A spokesperson for the New York Police Department told Insider that officers found a male unconscious and unresponsive when responding to a 911 call at 55 Wall Street just before 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The 19-year-old teen was later identified as Leandro.

De Niro was pronounced dead by EMS on the scene, according to the NYPD. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has set to determine his cause of death.

Leandro was the son of De Niro's elder daughter, Drena, and the artist Carlos Rodriguez.

Robert De Niro's eldest son, Raphael De Niro, is a real-estate broker who has sold apartments at Cipriani Wall Street, The Real Deal reported in 2009.

"I have loved you beyond words or description from the moment I felt you in my belly," Drena De Niro wrote in an Instagram caption announcing Leandro's death. "You have been my joy my heart and all that was ever pure and real in my life. I wish I was with you right now. I wish I was with you."

The NYPD didn't say where at 55 Wall Street the teen was found. The building, known as Cipriani Wall Street, is home to luxury apartments, hotel rooms, event space, and Casa Cipriani, a $4,000 a year exclusive old-money-inspired social club. It was formerly the National City Bank Building, and at one time it housed the New York Stock Exchange, according to the Cipriani's website.

The building's management office and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner did not respond to requests for comment.

In a statement to USA Today, Robert De Niro asked that his family be given privacy as they "grieve our loss of Leo."

Leandro De Niro acted alongside his mother in "A Star is Born."
